I was with one of my friends and he ran his Fusion through the car wash by my house because it was filthy. Normally I don’t like them, but hey, its a Fusion, and the paint has some light swirling anyway. So we get to my house to finish it up and it basically gouged the trunk. Like bad enough to the point where I had to wet sand it out. Almost like it dragged a rock along it. Anyway, have a Ford GT for your time.

Only use touchless automatic washes

Touchless washes are best washes.

Just do it by hand. It won’t kill ya.

I occasionally blast the Mazda through a touchless wash, but that’s only to take it from dirt-colored to some semblance of white.

Go back and complain. There is a reason that most auto car washes have cameras that photograph your car when you go in. This stuff happens all the time and is usually covered by their insurance.

Ouch. All my friends are banned from using those car washes for fear I will refuse to wash their car ever again. There are hand car washes popping up everywhere here and there are just as bad as they just don’t care and use old cloths, open-cell sponges and chamois to dry.
I take longer but I don’t charge and the cars stay cleaner for much longer afterwards.
I’ve reported your friend to the Swirl Police, Department of Corrections.
They are a common feature at the annual Waxstock festivals here.

I’ve got a cheap Gilmore foam gun and a couple buckets. Takes only 15 to wash And dry. I don’t understand paying $$ to do it poorly.

I only ever been in one with spinning brushes once, 1 hour after I left that car wash I traded it. My “new” car has a million scratches from those, the previous owner must have loved them. I only ever use touchless ones to get off 90% of the tough grime.

The only ones in my town are touchless, honestly the brushed ones don’t make any sense to me.

Like a car, these are large machines that need to be maintained and set up properly. Unfortunately, also like cars, many owners do not care enough to put in the money/effort that it takes. The key is to find a place that looks clean, is well maintained, and does a good job.
Usually there is just a minimum wage attendant that won’t have any training and wouldn’t notice any problems with the machine. An old brush or something stuck in it will do this damage (I’ve heard of antennas getting ripped off and wrapped around a brush, then scratching every car until it gets noticed).
The company should cover all repair costs if you go back and show them. That’s the only way the issue will be resolved and other people won’t have the same problem.
